In reflection I feel the argument is still a bit choppy, but much more coherent than the rough draft. Some of the editing could probably be a bit more precise but with the tools given it turned out pretty well. I hope this helps generate interest in my classmates and they look into this new media for their future enjoyment.
Final Project
December 3, 2009Video Argument Proposal
November 12, 2009Well, unfortunately I only have 1 idea for a video proposal and it has taken me 2 extra days to even really form it so any input or suggestions are more than welcome.
For my project I would to show how the media in which we enjoy today, television, movies and music, are moving over to the internet. Specifically how television and news are shifting to a more accessible format online with things such as blogs, websites, webshows, twitter, facebook, and all other social media. There is a whole world of entertainment that people are discovering every day and the world is slowly shifting to a full-on internet usage place.

Literary Narrative
September 30, 2009So my story probably won’t make the most direct connection with the audience, but it’s roots should touch everyone. This is a story of trial and triumph. Of facing difficulty and overcoming it, that sense of accomplishment that comes after a long battle. But as I said before, this won’t be your most common story. Most stories of trial and triumph come from sports, or overcoming adversity, mine on the other hand is a story of building a computer.
I have built 3 PC’s over my years, and have helped friends build or repair their own on several occasions. With each of these builds come a new adventure. First you start off by selecting the parts you want. Everyone enjoys being able to design their own things whether it be a bedroom, a new car, or in my case a computer. So I sit there with the excitement building inside me as I get to pick and choose exactly what will be in my new PC. Then even more excitement comes as the packages begin to arrive. For anyone that is as impatient as I am you will understand this. Not every part comes from the same place so every day you come home you may find a new piece that builds the anticipation more and more.
Finally the day will come when all of your parts are there, the moment you have been waiting for has finally come. You lay all the parts out, you get to work, maybe you get a piece or two in , but always you run into some kind of trouble. For me I’ve had troubles from, an improper power supply, a bad motherboard, to software not working. And for some people this would be annoying, but for me it just makes it better. Because at the end of the day I’m going to finish building it, and it seems that the more obstacles thrown in my way the more satisfying the outcome, damage control is half the fun for me. So I try to keep it local and quick, hopefully it’s a problem I can solve by visiting computer stores in town. Unfortunately I’ve lived in a fairly decent sized town but that doesn’t mean I can find everything, in extreme cases I have to order more things online and the waiting and anticipation builds once more.
Once particular problem I had with my last build was the aforementioned power supply. It had been a few years since I had built a computer and the 450W power supply I had procured since that had once been “more than any computer would need” was now obsolete when faced with the minimum required 650W supply for my video card, a slight detail I had overlooked in my purchasing. So I went out on the town and hit up every computer store we had, but as I mentioned though it was a fair sized town it was not the best. Most of the stores dealt in slower, older models and didn’t have what I needed for my powerhouse of a PC. So inevitably I fell back upon newegg.com, my source for basically everything already in my possession for the machine. This meant waiting, again. Much as in life I found that even when I had thought I had reached the apex of anticipation I was once more waiting for a day when things would be complete.
But a few days and a few dollars later I had my final piece. I once again returned to my friends basement where I had all the pieces sprawled out across the concrete floor and furniture. Though I would like to awe and wow everyone by saying that it takes some grand skill or deft hand to built a PC it is really quite simple. The most difficult part is finding the pieces online that work together, but given where technology is today and the people using it they have made it quite a simple process to do this. Really when it comes down to the actually building its nothing more than reading a manual, putting a few wires in the hole, and connecting knob A into slot B. But when you are done you have a product of your own imagination. From the blue LED lights on the fans to the sleek black design of the case it was all mine, a thing I had pictured and made real and with that comes a great feeling of accomplishment.
This Is Me
September 28, 2009So here’s the story of a boy, a boy that never knows how to start anything and usually ends up rambling. My name is Alexander Perrizo, but I’ve had so many nicknames over the years that if you throw out just about anything I’ll probably respond. I was born in Chicago Illinois and even though I moved away from there when I was 8 I still call it home. I have interests in just about anything anyone can bring up, or at least I can feign interest long enough to have a conversation. But my true passions in life are television/movies, my Chicago Cubs, music, poker, soccer, and hockey just to name the ones off the top of my head without getting entirely too personal. I am also a terribly indecisive person which has lead me on a wandering journey through school to find out what I want to do with my life. Recently I have decided I want to work in technology, specifically webTV. I have always had an interest in computers and technology as well as TV and movies, but it wasn’t until I discovered TechTV some years ago that all of that sort of came together for me. It was a television station devoted completely to the technology, new gadgets, new inventions, tech support, and just random whatever from the web usually. This seemed like a great place for me, a world of wacky and weird people that were still sane and had normal jobs. But alas this was short lived as it was bought out by G4 and turned into just another silly television station trying to pander to the youth of America while not actually listening to what the audience wants. All of my favorite personalities and shows began to slowly disappear as the station switched hands and I felt I had lost what once seemed so perfect. But wait! Pan to a few years later where I discovered twit.tv and revision3.com where all of my old favorites and essentially taken that which they had been doing on TV on and moved it to the internet medium, the place where all of their true fans lived. Here I discovered everything I had once loved about TechTV all over again, and got to see how the tech world had evolved and what it was becoming. I was once again enthralled by the experience of people having fun and talking about things I enjoyed. As I said before I had wanted to work in this environment when I was younger, but I was just a high school student then and something new caught my attention every week. I had a myriad of careers in mind of the years, architect, teacher, sports writer, bar owner, restaurant owner, and a few other business that I had cooked up in my mind. But I was getting older and finding that I felt a little lost in the world and needed to really settle myself into something, I had been stuck in the same small Ohio town I’d grown up in for 14 years and needed to go out and experience the world. With this, and a series of random experiences I had this past summer, brought me to OSU and a somewhat vaguely defined idea of what I want to do with my life.%Proxy-Connection: keep-alive

I realize that the specific field I want is elusive and strange so I have tried to broaden my career options. I would love to work at revision3 with my heroes Patrick Norton, Kevin Rose, Alex Albrecht, or Veronica Belmont but to set your sites on one specific job and basing your academic career off that is dangerous so I’ve opened myself to the world of production and business management. With my current goals I will be able to work in TV or movie studios all over working on audio and video editing, and hopefully someday be in charge of divisions of people, if I’m lucky I end up in San Fransisco work at Revision3.
But that is really a story of my life career wise, not who I am. As I said before, I ramble and tend to get side tracked. The story of who I am is really much more simple than that, or I suppose complex if I really wanted to get into the finite details of what I’ve done and how they’ve effected me. But I will spare everyone the mundane details that encompass the past 22 years of my life, instead I’ll throw the cliffnotes at you. I am the youngest of 3 brothers, 1 of which I haven’t seen as much as I’d like in life due to our parents divorce at a young age. My brothers and I were all born in Chicago and are all very big Chicago sports fans, something that keeps us all close. When I was 8 my mom go a new job in Marietta Ohio and thats where I’ve spent the last 14 years. In high school I pefromed in show choir but had many outside interests. I have played rolle hockey every week for 7 years, my friends and I are huge movie and music fans which has lead to many interseting conversations. I also play Ultimate Frisbee, soccer, tennis, poker, basketball, and ran track my senior year.
I’ve spent the last 4 years in and out of community college while working and sorting things out in life. I recently moved up to Columbus to go to OSU and live with 3 of my oldest and best friends. I am a very friend oriented person and love to participate in a lot of group events. I’m also a fairly shy person so it takes a little to get me out of my shell, but once I do I am a completely different and lively person.
I don’t know what else to really say about myself, but I’m sure there is a whole lot more to learn, but I guess thats what getting to know someone is all about.
